CQWW SSB 2026 G4ANT – The joy of contesting at G0DWV
Welcome to week two hundred and sixty two of NARC’s contest news
Submissions or comments for this news to g4lpp.1@gmail.com (note new e-mail address). I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.
Playing catch-up this weeks having been away last week.
Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

On 17th October the results of the 144MHz UKAC of 6th October were released. Our team of 10 stations came 6th in this one and we remain 6th in this series. Welcome to a new member of the VHF team Pete M0PCG who entered this one for the first time for us, leading our attack on the Restricted section. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the club this week. Link here to results
On 19th October the results of the 144MHz FT8 AC 2 and 4 h of 7th October were released. The only club members I spotted this time were Terry G0BIX who came 10th in the 2h Restricted section and 6th in the 4h Restricted section and Colin G0ODR who came 3rd in the 2h Low Power section. Link here to 2h results
On 25th October the results of the 432MHz FT8 AC 2h and 4h of 14th October were released. Roger EI8KN was 5th in the 2h Open section, Terry G0BIX was 3rd in the 2h Restricted section (and 5th in the 4h Restricted section) and Colin G0ODR was 3rd in the 2h Low Power section. Link here to 2h results
On 26th October the results of the 50MHz UKAC of 8th October were published. NARC are running 4th in this series and came 5th this time. Steve M5BFL came 4th on the Open section scoring 666 points, Phil G4LPP came 11th in the Restricted section scoring 871 points, Pete M0PCG came 59th in the Restricted section with 256 points, Roger G3LDI came 63rd in the Restricted section scoring 205 points, John G8VPE came 64th with 192 points and Jim G3YLA came 72nd with 89 points. Link here to results
On 26th October the results of the 70MHz UKAC of 15th October came out. NARC are running 4th in this series and came 4th again. All NARC members were in the Restricted section running 50W or less. G4LPP was 14th, EI8KN was 18th, M0PCG was 52nd, G8VPE was 54th and G4DYC was 55th. Historically we’ve had very few entries on 4m so it’s good to see our new member, Pete M0PCG in the fray for us! Link here to results
On 27th October the results of the 432MHz UKAC of 13th October were published. NARC came 8th in this one largely due to a low turnout of stations but remain 5th in this series. Our 4 entries were in the Restricted section. G4LPP was 8th, M0PCG was 68th, G8VPE was 69th and G4DYC was 85th. Link here to results
The results of the 70MHz AFS contest of 20th September were released on 12th October. Once again I reported these on 16th October but failed to notice that Roger, EI8KN was ranked the highest non-UK station in the Single Operator Fixed section coming 8th overall. We came 9th out of 22 clubs despite the only entrant for us being myself, G4LPP. We, again, could do with more people stepping up for these club series which run with teams of up to 4. Link here to results This was the first contest in this year’s RSGB AFS Super League.
The current VHF championship placings are at this link here
In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Wirral in 4th. Interestingly Parallel lines group have a perfect 6000 score so far! Link here
On HF
The results of the GR2HQ challenge of 11th/12th July are finally out! Our only entrant was Tracey 2E0CEY. She managed to gain a 9th place for NARC in the final club results and 15th place overall for herself being the highest placed intermediate license station. Link here to results
Tracey 2E0CEY has been active in various contests and has sent several updates of her progress in the past couple of weeks:-
The results of the BARTG Championship 2026 are out and Tracey was 4th in the Single Op. allband 100W section so congratulations are due for that! Link to results here

Tracey was also 11th in the Single Operator Low Power DARC RTTY Sprint and first in England.
“Hi
Results in for DARC RTTY Sprint 2026.
I think #01 G should say … only one G 🤣.
Anyway, I will happily take it as a win.
This is the “outsider” catagory of course.
Tracey 😄🎉” Link to results here

Tracey was also 47th in the world and 32nd in Europe in the Single Op. Low power section of the recent Makrothen RTTY contest. Link not yet available to official results page

In the SARTG RTTY contest Tracey mentions that she came 47th and Wilson G6ELF came 11th,
BOB 2E0OBO was 317th with his usual 50 station entry. Link to those results
In the ARI contest Tracey was 2nd in England and 32nd in the World, an excellent result with 100W and a wire antenna:-
“Hi
The ARI Italian results are out today.
This one was an interesting contest for me and a bit of an experiment, as I combined my SSB, CW & RTTY skills, to enter the mixed mode catagory.
The result was #2 England and #32 world.
I conclude that, you do not need high power, big antennas and a back yard the size of a football pitch, to achieve results in the world of contesting.

Tracey“

In the Russian WW DIGI contest this year Tracey was 33rd in the world, 27th in Europe and first place in England

In the Russian RTTY WW contest she was 58th in the world, 52nd in Europe and 3rd in England

This is an amazing series of results and it’s no wonder Tracey is doing so well in the Autumn series DATA contests now!
Once again Congratulations.
This year’s HF championship results to date are at this link here
If people are entering other contests of whose results I am obviously unaware please e-mail me to let me know the outcome and I’ll mention it here.
Contests:-
On VHF
On Sunday 18th October the 50MHz AFS contest ran. As I was away in the sun, it looks like our only competitor was John G8VPE. We really need many more entries if we’re to stand a chance of winning the AFS series of club contests. The only other club member I could see who was involved was Roger EI8KN who unfortunately couldn’t enter for us as we are in the Local group for these AFS tests. Link here to claimed scores
On Tuesday 20th October the 1.3GHz UKAC ran. I was still away but was pleased to note we had 3 entries for NARC, Pete M0PCG, Jim G3YLA and Mike G4DYC. Link here to logs received
On Tuesday 27th October the SHF UKAC ran. As Graham G3SGC was away, I was the only entrant for the club in this one. Conditions were pretty dire and I expect some UBNs as copy was always on the raggedy edge but currently I’m pleased to see my score on top of the heap and 11 of 27 stations reporting me as their best DX. For some reason 13cm works well here. Link here to claimed scores
On HF
On Saturday 17th October the Stew Perry ‘pre Stew’ top band CW contest ran. This is a bit of fun and runs for 24h. Scores are distance based so as I went to bed early I missed the good DX! Nevertheless it was good to hear top band CW well populated for a change. Looking at logs received it seems I was the only entry from NARC. this time. Link to logs received here
Bob 2E0OBO put in an entry in the JARL RTTY contest 17th/18th October and sent this report:-
“Hi Phil,
This weekend JARL rtty – 50 QSO’s in two hours, mixture of s&p and running.”
Link here to logs received (I note Tracey 2E0CEY, Tony G0OOR, Bob G6PWS and Alan G8OO were also in this one!)
He also entered the WAG, worked all Germany CW test:–
“WAG cw – 50 QSO’s in hour and a half. 20M no gud so all on 40M, condx not too gud.
Best 73
Bob 2E0OBO” Link here to WAG logs received
On Thursday 22nd October the Autumn series SSB contest ran. I was away for this one but see that there was another good number of logs for NARC. It looks to be a close call between Echelford’s 13 logs and our 11 but Andy M0NKR worked a stunning 152 stations and is running joint second on raw score with M2A at the moment. I won’t try to predict whether NARC have won this one or not as there are too many variables. Link here to logs received
Over the weekend of 24th/25th October CQWW SSB ran. Stewart, G4AFF travelled all the way to Shetland as GM5E for this one braving the terrible weather and solar panel interference at his Airbnb site to get a quite respectable score for his fairly simple setup. SO(A)AB HP
His summary here :- Surrounded by hills, constant S8 solar panel QRN, poor propagation on Saturday
but better on Sunday. I was obviously weak and found it very difficult to hold a
run frequency. Still good fun!

The NARC call G4ANT was activated at Chris G0DWV’s QTH (see heading photos) with help from Andy M0NKR and Steve M5BFL. They entered all bands in the Multi single section High power. Conditions were less than excellent after some auroral activity but a good number of contacts were made.
