NARC Contest News 260 Friday 9th October 2026

An old Norfolk Club contest group – who can you spot?

Welcome to week two hundred and sixty of NARC’s contest news

Submissions or comments for this news to g4lpp.1@gmail.com (note new e-mail address). I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

Contests:-

On VHF

On the weekend of 3rd and 4th of October, the October UHF contest ran as well as the 23cm and 13cm Trophy contests. Activity was fairly good for these and conditions not too bad helped by the concurrent IARU Region 1 UHF contest running in Europe providing many stations to find and work. Club members spotted active in these tests were Terry G0BIX and Myself (G4LPP). Link here to Claimed scores October UHF – 23cm Trophy – 13cm Trophy

On Tuesday 6th October the 2m UKAC ran. Conditions were moderately lifted and the contacts came thick and fast with some reasonable DX. Best DX here was 811KM to SM7EYW. Unfortunately Stewart G4AFF had a problem with his transverter and couldn’t join us. Also making up the team we had Steve M5BFL, Mike G4KQY, Roger EI8KN, John G8VPE, Jim G3YLA, Mike G4DYC, Neil G4HUN and Richard G0VCW, so a good turnout. Link here to claimed scores

On 7th October the 2m FT8 AC 2h and 4h ran. In the 2h section Colin G0ODR featured. Link here to claimed scores 2h

On 8th October the 50MHz UKAC ran – conditions were, of course, terrible but 5 of us turned out. Several worked GI3SNA as best DX. Steve M5BFL claimed the highest number of contacts with 66 stations worked. Others on were myself, G8VPE, G3LDI and G3YLA. Link here to claimed scores

On HF

On Monday 5th October the 80m Autumn Series CW contest ran. We managed 15 entries with some excellent scores. Conditions were quite good and activity was reasonably good for the first hour. RSGB has received 156 logs and NARC’s team contributed 14 of them Link here to logs received

Several reports from club members too:-

Steve M5BFL reports his activity over the weekend in the Oceania DX SSB contest:-

Hi Phil

Just one for your contest section.

I entered the Oceania SSB contest last weekend – 06.00 UTC 3rd Oct to 06.00 UTC 4th Oct.

Conditions were not great with an SFI of 92 & K of 2 & 3.
Having said that I did better than expected –
Overall 129 Oceania stations in the log (17 on 40Mtr, 20 on 15Mtr & the rest on 20Mtr)
Only 4 Q’s on the Sun with band opening 15 mins before contest end 🙁

Highlights being –
VK9DX on 40Mtr
FK8GM on 15Mtr
FK8HC on 20Mtr
5W0AF on 20Mtr
Not to forget VJ0VM calling into my CQ call on 20Mtr.

Look forward to catching you on Tue’s 2Mtr contest & seeing you at the convention.
