Week starting October 12th

Be a cool cat like me – it’s just practice man!

Arrangements so far:
It does not matter which class you join. Your ability will soon be sorted and you might be asked to move to a higher class. You are all welcome to join in just like the cool cat above and become CW operators. Once you are in the medium speed class you should learn to use a Morse key. I do prefer you to start on a straight key, but it is not mandatory. However, in order to teach sending we will have to oversee your technique. To do this we will be using JIT.SI Meet. This is a program similar to Zoom with no restrictions. The tutor will instigate the session and you can join. We can deal with several at a time although I would prefer one-to-one. Phil will be using Zoom and you are welcome to join his class if you wish. You certainly are not restricted to just one class. The idea of using a video link is purely to oversee your sending technique.
Paul M1AFQ will be offering a personal tuition service and a few of you already take advantage of Paul’s hospitality. He lives in Norwich and welcomes anybody wishing some extra tuition. Paul can also use Messenger on line if you are interested .
Chris G0TZZ will be our supply teacher. He will be available for one-to-one QSOs on 80m when you feel like a real QSO on the air. I am assuming there that you have an HF transceiver and 80m capability. This is all tentative and it will take a week or two to settle. However we look forward to a good winter and lots of practice from each of you. We have to tackle abbreviations and procedural signals together with cut numbers this year too. Jim will be producing the usual tables which will be published in the Newsletter each week so please be sure to keep up to date with the reading. You can also ask any of us to have a QSO when you feel capable. Speed is not important!
We will also be starting the Monday night Net. This will be on 3543kHz at 8 p.m. so hopefully you will be able to listen there. It is to enable Netting and Net practice. Everybody is welcome, so if you want to take part in a round table type QSO, give it a try. We look forward to seeing you.
I shall be kicking it off on Monday evening, after I get back from the Convention. I look forward to seeing you check in. Keep overs short and to the point, with comments aimed at those you wish to aim for. The whole net should take no longer than an hour at most.

73 and May the Morse be with you! Roger, G3LDI
