Welcome to week two hundred and fifty two of NARC’s contest news

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

No new VHF results of note this week although we are expecting several!

In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Wirral in 4th. Interestingly Parallel lines group have a perfect 6000 score so far! Link here
On HF
No new RSGB contest results.
Tracey 2E0CEY reports the results of the DARC short RTTY test in which she managed 5th place in category, so well done there!
Hi Phil, results for the DARC short RTTY are out.
Managed 5th place in the “Outside Germany” SOLP catagory despite very noisey conditions.

On VHF
On Tuesday 28th July the 2.4GHz part of the SHF UKAC got myself and Graham G3SGC on the air. Conditions were dire in general although there was a lift to the East as far as the Netherlands for us. The PI7ALK beacon was 30dB over S9 here which is unusual! Conditions did not extend far inland either side of the North Sea though. So-far 28 stations have entered logs, activity being rather low. Best DX with both myself and Graham was F1BHL/p at 444Km and 425Km respectively. There is good chance of UBNs aplenty due to the very marginal nature of many of the contacts! On HF
Over the weekend of 25th / 26th July the IOTA contest ran. This year there were no NARC DX teams in evidence. I’ve had reports from Peter M0RYB and Bob 2E0OBO:-

11 hours operating. N1MM does not calculate the score correctly: it gives 15 points to island contacts with the same IOTA reference, rather than 5. I had 22 EU-005 contacts so the correct score is 534,240. Still more to come off with adjudication lol

Before each of the 2m and 70cm UKACs there is an FM leg starting 1 hour before for 55 minutes. I hear almost no activity in this from here but others may have more luck! Rules etc on RSGBCC site.
