NARC Contest News 263 Friday 6th November 2026

A blast from the past – it would be good to repeat this success!

Welcome to week two hundred and sixty three of NARC’s contest news

Submissions or comments for this news to g4lpp.1@gmail.com (note new e-mail address). I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

First. Apologies to Roger EI8KN, who I neglected to mention last time in the AFS result. Although he can’t enter the AFS series for us, points out that he was top scoring non-uk station in the 70MHz AFS. Congratulations on that achievement!

On 31st October the result of the 13cm trophy contest of 3/10/2026 was released. The only NARC member involved was G4LPP who came 5th in the Single Operator Fixed section. Link here to results

The 31st October also saw the release of the results of the 23cm Trophy also of 3/10/2026. Once again the only NARC member involved was G4LPP who came 6th. Link here to results

Also on 31st October the overall results of the October UHF contest of 3rd October came out. On 432MHz G0BIX entered for Gower/Gwyr coming 10th in the 6H single operator fixed section. On 23cm G4LPP came 4th in the Single Operator fixed section. On 13cm G4LPP came joint second in the Single operator fixed section gaining a certificate for leading station running 25W or less. We had no entries on other bands. Link here to results

On 1st November the results of the 50MHz AFS contest of 18th October came out. There were only 2 entries from NARC members. Roger EI8KN was 4th overall and the leading non-UK entrant. He notably also gained what was by far the longest DX by working IQ8HP at 2339Km using 100W to a 5 element beam. John G8VPE came 49th using 100W to a 3 element beam. Link here to results

In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Wirral in 4th. Interestingly Parallel lines group have a perfect 6000 score so far! Link here

The results of the Autumn series DATA contest of 14th October are out. NARC’s team of 11 entrants once again had an easy win this time over Bristol scoring 9,739 points compared to their 4,249. Tracey 2E0CEY in the 100W unassisted section came 4th overall but with her Intermediate licence uplift scored 1,267 points for the club! Link here to results

The results of the Autumn series SSB contest of 22nd October are also out. 11 NARC stations entered scoring 6,050 points and beating Newbury into second place, who scored 4,252. Top scorer for NARC was Andy M0NKR who came second in the 100W section with a magnificent 152 QSOs. Link here to results

On Tuesday 3rd November the 144MHz UKAC ran. Conditions were fairly good for this one and 10 stations have put in scores for NARC. One new member entering for us is Brendan G8IXK from Luton. Welcome to the team! I thoroughly enjoyed this one finding lots of DX with the best being Chris SM6VTZ at 893Km who I note also was best DX for Stewart G4AFF at 933Km (which also looks to be the best DX of this contest). Link here to claimed scores

On Wednesday 4th November the 144MHz FT8AC 2h and 4h ran. In the 2h contest club members who have entered logs so far are G8IXK, G0BIX and G0ODR. In the 4h section just G0BIX. Link here to 2h claimed scores

Almost finally, Alan G8OO has sent an email concerning a new way of looking at the amateur radio world map, making headings easier to visualise. It’s called QTH Worldmap by Ham, DB6LL – a link to it is here

Finally possibly a new section as there doesn’t seem to be any other NARC pages dedicated to this; here is a list forwarded by Alan G8OO of the DX activity planned courtesy the ARI DX bulletin:-
