An example of a prepared WRTC site
Welcome to week two hundred and forty nine of NARC’s contest news
Don’t forget to look out for those WRTC stations in the IARU contest this weekend!
A rather late submission this week after a hot tiring day setting up WRTC and the 50MHz UKAC so being written Friday am.
Submissions or comments for this news to thedoctorphil@gmail.com. I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.
Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

The results of the 70MHz UKAC of 18th June were released on 3rd July. In the Open section Stewart G4AFF led our charge coming 4th. In the Restricted section G4LPP was 4th, Roger EI8KN was 8th and Mike G4DYC was 55th. In the Low Power section Graham G3SGC was 15th. We came 4th this time and are running 4th overall in this series. The current VHF championship placings are at this link here
In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Wirral in 4th. Interestingly Parallel lines group have a perfect 6000 score so far! Link here
On HF
No new relevent HF results this week.
Next CC in the series is SSB on Wednesday 15th July.
This year’s HF championship results to date are at this link here
If people are entering other contests of whose results I am obviously unaware please e-mail me to let me know the outcome and I’ll mention it here.
Contests:-
On VHF
Over the weekend of 3rd/4th July the VHF Field Day and VHF Fixed station contests ran. NARC had no Field Day entry although the local Bittern DX group did enter this year, on claimed score it looks like they may win the 144MHz section. In the Fixed station contest I entered on 4 Bands although going to Barford on Sunday morning did rather limit the airtime. The only other club members I spotted entering were Roger EI8KN and Terry G0BIX. Link here to VHF NFD claimed scores and link here to VHF fixed station contest claimed scores.
On Tuesday 7th July the 144MHz UKAC ran. For those in the West of the UK there was some excellent Tropo to Madeira EA8 and countries between. Over this side less so! NARC fielded a decent number of entries with G4LPP, Roger EI8KN, Neil G4HUN/P, Mike G4KQY, Mike G4DYC and Graham G3SGC on the air. Best DX here was to Torleif SM7EYW at 811Km. Link here to claimed scores
On Wednesday 8th July the 432MHz FT8 AC ran (2h and 4h sections). NARC members spotted in this one were Roger EI8KN and Terry G0BIX. Link here to claimed scores (2h)
On Thursday 9th July the 50MHz UKAC ran. Conditions were fairly poor and initially on 100W I only managed a few locals so after an unproductive half hour I changed sections and upped the power to 500W. This produced good results! There were very few contacts of a DX nature by anyone. Entries from NARC were from Myself, Roger G3LDI, Roger EI8KN, John G4PFZ, Mike G4DYC and Mike G4KQY. Link here to claimed scores

Over the weekend of the 4th/5th July the Marconi memorial CW contest ran. I’ve had this brief report from Bob 2E0OBO:-
Hi Phil,
Managed my token 50 qso’s on Marconi Memorial Contest on Sat 4th. Conditions not so good but had some fun.
Catch you on cwt Wed.

On Monday 6th July the 80m CC CW ran. Conditions were fairly reasonable although activity seemed slightly down. NARC managed a good turnout with 14 logs entered. Highest number of contacts claimed was 130 by Jon G4IVV. Peter M0RYB started late after a heavy day building WRTC stations. Here is his report:-
After 3 days erecting stations for WRTC in the heat, I did not think I would be fit for the CW CC on Monday. But having made the mistake of turning the radio on at 21:00, the next 30 minutes were a blast. On a run frequency I had to call CQ only 3 times, and the pike-ups were huge. If you want pile-up practice, start late. Over 50 qsos in that time

Please let me know if you were on in any other VHF or HF contests and I’ll put a summary in next week’s news.
Apologies if I have missed any emailed reports, some go to spam and some get lost in the huge quantity of junk mail! I try to be diligent!
