NARC Contest News 248 Friday 3rd July 2026

Where’s that fox?

Welcome to week two hundred and forty eight of NARC’s contest news

Submissions or comments for this news to thedoctorphil@gmail.com. I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

Results:-

On VHF

No new VHF results of NARC interest this week so far.

The current VHF championship placings are at this link here

In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Wirral in 4th. Interestingly Parallel lines group have a perfect 6000 score so far! Link here

On HF

The results of HF CW NFD of 6th and 7th of June have now been published. I am pleased to report thst Peter M0RYB and Chris G0TZZ operating as M0RYB/P for the Loxlot team came second in the QRP section. Congratulations to them. G2N/P. the NARC team run by G4EYT, G3LDI, G3PDH, G3WRJ, G4LPP, G3YLA, and G6ELF came 7th in the 100W unassisted section. It looks like they were let down by too few 10m contacts. In terms of multiop stations in that section they were 5th out of 8 entries. Link here to results

The results of the latest 80m CC, the SSB of 25th June are out. Activity in this one was limited by thunderstorms and Friedrichshaven but with 9 entries and good scores an easy win for NARC was had. All entries for us were in the 100W section and our top scorer was Stewart G4AFF with 120 confirmed QSOs and 925 points. We gained 6000 points with Newbury in second place on 4,324 points. Overall in th CC series we now have a good lead on 125,551 points and Bristol in second place on 78,606 points. Link here to results

Next CC in the series is CW on Monday 6th July.

This year’s HF championship results to date are at this link here

If people are entering other contests of whose results I am obviously unaware please e-mail me to let me know the outcome and I’ll mention it here.

Contests:-

On VHF

On 28th June the 50MHz CW contest ran. This was part of the VHF CW Championship. UK turnout for this one was very poor but several continental stations were available due in part to the region 1 IARU contest on 6m. At the beginning of the contest there were some ES available. Contacts were made from the UK to Italy, Spain and Portugal. The only NARC stations who entered were Roger G3LDI and myself. Contacts were also made with G3MPN, G0CWJ and G4BEW. Link here to logs received

On Wednesday 1st July the 144MHz FT8 AC (2h and 4h sections) ran. I looked briefly at the 2m FT8 section during the contest and it was, indeed, pretty busy as these contests coincide with the European FT8 activity periods. So far only 10 logs have been received from UK stations with some NARC presence although I did hear several more NARC stations active whilst earwigging. Of note EI8KN and G0ODR. Link here to claimed scores

On HF

I’ve had no reports of any NARC activity in any HF contests this week and there were no major RSGB HF contests.

Please let me know if you were on in any other VHF or HF contests and I’ll put a summary in next week’s news.
Apologies if I have missed any emailed reports, some go to spam and some get lost in the huge quantity of junk mail! I try to be diligent!

Upcoming contests in the next 2 weeks (all times in UTC):-

Before each of the 2m and 70cm UKACs there is an FM leg starting 1 hour before for 55 minutes. I hear almost no activity in this from here but others may have more luck! Rules etc on RSGBCC site.
