2011 SSB Field Day
Welcome to week two hundred and twenty six of NARC’s contest news.
Results:-
On VHF
The results of the 432MHz UKAC of 13th January were published on the 23rd January. Our team of 7 struggled with poor conditions managing 6th overall. I was pleased with my move to the Restricted category as although I worked less stations than usual on the lower power I achieved a higher score due to the much larger number of logs in that section. Something to think about perhaps? Link here to those results
The 50MHz UKAC (8/1/2028) results were released on 28th January. Once again, conditions had been pretty poor for this one with very little in the way of DX propagation in evidence. 6 of us submitted logs most being in the Restricted section. Our team managed 4th place overall, a good result. Link to these results here
In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, up two places from the first contest! Link here
The results of the 432MHz FT8 AC (2h and 4h sections) of 14/1/2026 were released on 25th January. Terry G0BIX came 6th in the 2h Restricted section and 3rd in the 4h, Roger EI8KN came 4th in the 4h Open section. Link to results (2h) here
On HF
The results of the DATA AFS of 11th January came out on 25th January. NARC A team [M0NKR, G£G, G3PDH and G3LDI] came 2nd, NARC’s B team [G8OO, G4OZG, G4AFF and G4LPP] came 6th and our C team [2E0CEY, M0KKM, G8VPE and G4DYC] came 18th these out of 39 teams in section so a good result! The results of the SSB AFS of 17th January are also out. I was sorry not to be available for this one. Our A team [G5E, M0NKR, G3PXT and G3PDH] came 3rd, Our B team [G3WRJ, G4OZG, G3LDI and M0KKM] came 14th and our C team [2E0CEY and G3YLA] came 36th out of 42 teams in section. We have now moved up to 3rd place overall.
The results of the RSGB FT4 contest of 19th January are also out. In the UK 100W restricted section Ted G4OZG came 6th, Gordon G3PXT came 9th and Terry G0BIX came 33rd. In the Non-UK 100W Restricted section, Roger EI8KN came 35th. Link to results here

Contests:-
On VHF
The first SHF contest of the year ran on Tuesday 27th January. I was the only club entry on 13cm. Conditions, for the first time since I started on this band were truly abysmal over this side of the UK and I only just scraped 5 contacts in 3h of trying! Link to claimed scores here
On HF
There were several interesting contests over the weekend that I know club members were involved in but I have had no reports of activity from anyone.
One was the BARTG sprint contest. Looking at the logs received page, Tracey 2E0CEY logged 229 contacts, Bob, 2E0OBO logged 30, Gordon G3PXT logged 333 and Kevin M0KKM logged 120 contacts. My apologies if I missed anyone out. Worldwide activity was very good for this one with 530 logs entered. Link to logs received here
Another was the CQ WW 160m CW contest. The only NARC member I recognised in the logs received was Richard G4CDN. Link to logs received here

Before each of the 2m and 70cm UKACs there is an FM leg starting 1 hour before for 55 minutes. I hear almost no activity in this from here but others may have more luck! Rules etc on RSGBCC site.

Wednesdays throughout the year, CW OPS 1 hour mini tests 13:00, 19:00, Thurs 03:00 and 07:00, exchange Name and G if not a member or CW OPS number if you are a member.

Also on Fridays 2000 to 2100 and Mondays 0000 to 0100 each week CW OPS runs the K1USN slow speed CW contests. Any speed up to 20wpm is acceptable. For rules see :- CW OPs SST page these contests are open to anyone.

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!
