Welcome to week two hundred and twenty of NARC’s contest news
Results:-
On VHF
The results of the 1.3GHz UKAC of 18th November came out on 7th December. Our team of 4 managed 5th place in this one. We remain 6th in the series. Once again, we could do with more operators on these bands. If you have 1.3GHz or higher please consider giving it a go! Entries in this one were from myself, Stewart, G4AFF and the Mattishall contingent, Jim G3YLA and Mike G4DYC who only managed to work each other but gained useful points for our team effort! Only one more in this series this year. Link to results here
In the overall UKAC we are still running 6th in section out of 69 clubs so far. Of note, we are only 1 point below 5th place Gower/GwyrCC. Link to this here.
On HF
No new results of note of which I am aware this week, however the raw scores for the CQ WW CW contest of the last weekend in November have been published. Several NARC members took part including a low power Multi Two entry by the Loxlot team (M0RYB). Link to these here
In the AFS Superleague championships so far NARC are now up into 4th place out of 28 clubs. Link to this here
This year’s HF championship results to date are at this link here
If people are entering other contests of whose results I am obviously unaware please e-mail me to let me know the outcome and I’ll mention it here.
Contests:-
OnVHF
On Sunday 7th December the 144MHz AFS contest ran – this, as its name suggests, is part of the AFS series of HF and VHF contests. NARC managed 6 logs for this one which is 6 times better than last year when only David M9BLX entered! This year logs were received from Myself, G4AFF, M5BFL, M9BLX, G8VPE and G4DYC. Thanks to all who entered. This means we have 1 full team and one half team in this event. Link to claimed scores here
On Tuesday 9th December the 432MHz UKAC ran. Eight NARC members were active including, from his new QTH, Graham G3SGC using a 7 element QUAD at 4 ft AGL, hand rotated and 20 Watts but making 14 QSOs which was a valiant effort! Conditions at the start were fairly good East West but poor North South. Top scorer looks to be Stewart G4AFF. Link to Claimed Scores here
On Wednesday 10th December the 70cmm FT8 AC (2h and 4h sections) ran. A club member noted to have entered was Roger, EI8KN in the 2h section. Link here to claimed scores.
On Thursday 11th December the 50MHz UKAC ran. This was the last 6m UKAC of the year and we had a fairly good turnout with 8 stations active. G4DYC, G3YLA, G3LDI, M5BFL, G8VPE, M0YRU, G4AFF and G4KQY. Conditions were horrible although Steve, M5BFL managed to pull an Italian station out of the noise on SSB. There was a lot of MS activity and we suspect that was the mode for his QSO. Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!
Submissions or comments for this news to thedoctorphil@gmail.com.
I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.
73 until next week,
Phil G4LPP
