We are a small group of radio amateurs who feel that Professor James Clark Maxwell’s scientific work, both in Scotland, London and Cambridge, where he was the first professor of experimental physics and directed the world famous Cavendish Laboratory, is not recognised enough by folks in the UK. People come from around the world to visit the great man’s grave here in Dumfries and Galloway yet few know of his scientific work, the foundation for our hobby.
Special Event station 13+14th June
We will be setting up our special event station at Parton Kirk in Dumfries and Galloway on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of June, ….time…. from 10:00 to 17:00 each day….frequencies …we usually stick around 20 and 40 mtrs but that’s up to conditions on the day. This special event station is to commemorate Maxwell’s birthday on the 13th. June 1831.
We will be using the call sign GB3JCM (James Clark Maxwell)
Parton Kirk is where the great man is buried and our antenna goes over or very near over the great man’s grave so we do cheat rather a lot! Parton Kirk is very near his house, Glenlair House, north of Castle Douglas on the A713 west of Dumfries. At the age of 25 Maxwell became Professor of Physics at Aberdeen and also studied at Edinburgh and Cambridge.
It would be good if folks around the world listened out for us and gave us a call.
