NARC Contest News 244 Friday 5th June 2026

SSB Field day

Welcome to week two hundred and forty four of NARC’s contest news

Submissions or comments for this news to thedoctorphil@gmail.com. I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

Results:-

On VHF

The results of the annual 144MHz May contest of 16th May were released on 30th May. We had no major group entry however several of us took part all in the singe operator fixed section. G4LPP was 3rd, G4AFF 16th, G8VPE 55th, G4DYC 59th and G3SGC 63rd. This is a contest we have entered as a team in the past from a hilltop location. Link here to results

The results of the 70MHz UKAC of 21st May were released on 2nd June. Once again our team came 6th but stull remain in 4th place in the series. 4 of us took part. G4LPP scored 893 points, G4PFZ scored 500 points, G8VPE scored 181 points and G4DYC scored 121 points. We really could do with more entries in this one. If you have any 4m gear please consider having a go! Link here to results

The results of the May UHF contest of 2nd May were released on 29th May. The only serious entry by a club member was from Roger, EI8KN who came second of the non-UK operators. Link here to results

On HF

Over the weekend of 30th and 31st May the CQ WW WPX CW contest ran. The bands were rammed with CW stations over the whole weekend although conditions to the States didn’t seem quite as good as usual. Several NARC stations entered logs although I’m not sure if anyone put in a determined entry. Logs from 2E0CEY, 2E0OBO, G0CWJ, G0OOR, G1Q (and as G8OO), G4IVV (checklog) and M0RYB have been spotted in the list of entries here

This report from Alan, G8OO:-

Hi Phil G4LPP

We had visitor here over the CQ-WPX-CW weekend. So with limited time I decided to run two different callsigns during Sat/Sun.

Saturday 30th G1Q worked 100 qso’s in 37 countries in 2½ hours (operating overnight with sporadic operating during the day).
Sunday 31st G8OO worked 75 qso’s into 32 countries in 2 hours (operating early hours).

G8OO closed down Sun 08:14.

And this from Bob 2E0OBO:-

Hi Phil,
Test this w/e.
Cq wpx Sat. Am, S and P, made my 50 in short order, like shooting fish in a barrel🤣.
Sun. Cq wpx Am, Ran most of the time, even quicker for my 50 😁. Catch you on data tomorrow. 73 Bob 2E0OBO

On Monday 1st June the 80m CC DATA contest ran. 148 logs were received at RSGB with 15 from NARC. On contacts claimed, Jon G4IVV is our highest scorer. I believe congratulations are due to Tracey 2E0CEY for a PB number of contacts in this one. Link here to logs received

Please let me know if you were on in any other VHF or HF contests and I’ll put a summary in next week’s news.
Apologies if I have missed any emailed reports, some go to spam and some get lost in the huge quantity of junk mail! I try to be diligent!
