Wednesday 29 May 2024 - Have your Say at CNS or Online!!

Tonight is our Members Forum, a really important evening where members discuss what they would like to see from their club, suggest ideas for projects, what we should do online or in person, events, activities, visits etc, in fact anything at all to do with the club!

To make sure this is accessible as possible for all NARC members, for the first time we will be making this an interactive hybrid event with people at CNS and also online via BATC and Facebook where members not able to be there in person will be able to watch the forum and make suggestions and ask questions via the live chat. Fingers crossed for the technology and internet which Tammy, Kevin and I will be setting up earlier at the school!

At CNS:

If you are coming to CNS we will meet from 1900-2130 with the Forum starting around 19.30 both in person and online - Cold drinks and biscuits will be available to purchase and there is a hot drink vending machine in the adjacent canteen room.

Please do not go into the school before 19.00. If you are coming to see us for the first time, this is the first building on the left as you enter the main school gates - plenty of free parking.

Online:

If you are going to watch and take part from home you will be able to join in the usual places, either on BATC or Facebook live as below where we expect to start at 19.30:

What on Earth is this... ?

This is our regular competition where we show an unusual object, tool, gadget or thing-me-bob sent in by one of the NARC members and you have to guess (or maybe you know!) what it is for...

Have a good look at the picture below - what on earth is this for ...?!

You have until 3pm on the next NARC Live to let Tammy and David know...

Please email your answers with the subject 'What on earth' to David & Tammy This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 3pm latest on WEDNESDAY OF OUR NEXT NARC LIVE and we will read out all of the entries and tell you what it is!

As you know NARC will be taking part in NFD on the 1st/2nd June at DCP Gt Ellingham.   Whilst the antenna will be installed earlier we are looking for assistance from members to erect the station tent/s and equipment on Saturday morning June 1st at 0900 and to help dismantle the station from 1600 BST on Sunday June 2nd.

Andy M0NKR is stateside...

I will be active over the pond as W0/M0NKR in Colorado where Laura and I are visiting an old club member Johnny WA5JM.

We plan to be QRV from several state parks over the next 5 days as we’re travelling around in a RV (until May 26).
Equipment will probably be yaesu FT710 100w and a dipole or my qrp setup Icom 705 and wolf rivers coil SOTA antenna system.

James M0ZAH...

Please could you circulate details of our Facebook group on VHF/6M.https://www.facebook.com/groups/947897587345823/

We're on a drive to generate more interest in low band VHF 6M FM activity.

Frankie M7EQR...

Frankie M7EQR and some of his friends have started a radio club called KOTA kids on the air!

Frankie says 'We came quite far from 10 people including me to about 200 give or take. I wondering if you could help me promote it here in the UK and put it on the newsletter so I can get from others as well. Already massively promoted in America here is a video to give you an idea of what we are doing:

Bank Holiday radio at "The Middy" mid suffolk railway...
This Sunday and Monday, Andy, 2E0DIQ, Iain, G0OZS, Cathy, M0DFL, Martin, M0HVW and Ian, G0YAP will be at the Mid Suffolk Light Railway near Mendlesham in Suffolk, for the 1940s weekend event.

They will have a stand with some radio gear ( modern and vintage) etc and will be operating a special event station, GB0SLR.
Is there anyone from NARC who could maybe go and either operate the special event station or talk to visitors for a few hours either or both days? If so please contact Ian G0YAP through David G7URP or just turn up and say you are from NARC to help.

Michael 2E0SZP

s you may have seen at the end of NARC Live on Wednesday, during the programme we were told the very sad news that Michael 2E0SZP had passed away earlier that day after a relatively short illness.

Michael has been a member of NARC for many years and took his courses and exams with us and could often be heard on the air or seen at events.

Our sincere sympathies and thoughts with Michael's wife Lee and his family and friends.

We have sent a NARC sympathy cardand will advise details of Michaels funeral when they are known.

RadioActive 2024 - we need your help!

As many NARC members will know, every year we host an 2 day event called RadioActive on the first weekend of June held at our place in Gt Ellingham near Attleborough. As well as two active contest stations we host workshops, talks and activities at DCP, not to mention Tammy and my Sunday Roast too! A relaxing informal family welcome event.

But I would really appreciate some help: As our Forum has been delayed until a few days before RadioActive I have lost the opportunity to get your feedback on what you would like to see at RadioActive so I would really appreciate some requests and ideas. The event is particularly ideal for things that do not suit the two hours we have on a Wednesday evening at CNS.

We usually run a construction project (inc etching circuit boards) but unfortunately this year Nick who has done this for several years cannot make it, so could you host a small construction project workshop?

Or do you have a suggestion for something you have made and think others would enjoy - circuit wise or antenna?

We have a small mechanical workshop at our disposal as well as work benches and test equipment.

Or maybe a talk...  or film ...

Please get in touch with anything you would like to see at RadioActive 2024!

Thanks. 73
