The NARC VHF team operating as G2N from Trimingham over the weekend of 18th/19th May entered the 144MHz May contest. Preparation took much of the preceding week but results have made the effort well worthwhile. Conditions were fairly flat but using full legal power amd 2 towers each with 2 x 14 element beams we achieved 332 QSOs, 81 postcode districts and 17 countries. Best DX was 1600Km plus by FSK441. Hoping adjudication doesn't lead to too many UBNs! Many signals were very weak especially on Sunday when the Backpackers joined the fray. Overall we ended the weekend very tired but happy and had a good weekend. By claimed scores so far we are well in the lead although more entries are expected and one of the larger teams has not entered a claimed score. The site was mostly stripped down in about 2 hours. Thanks to everyone who helped, visited, gave us points or supported us in other ways. Link to claimed scores here

The 1.3GHz UKAC ran on Tuesday May 21st. 86 logs have so far been received at RSGB. NARC managed 3 entries, Myself, G4DYC and G3YLA. We do need more regular entries on this band please. Conditions were reasonable and there was some DX about. Link to claimed scores here

The 80M CC DATA contest ran on Wednesday 22nd May. Conditions were quite good and so was activity with many continental stations joining in the fray particularly from DL and PA. NARC once again provided a good team with 15 known entries and good scores. It is noticeable that our team members scores are improving overall. Highest claimed score in this one was Ray G3G with 114 contacts. On an initial totting up of results it looks like we should win this one too. Link to logs received here
I've had no reports of anyone working any other HF contests last weekend. Please let me know if you were and I'll put a summary in next week's news.

Contesting can be great fun but I know there's a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It's a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one's own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsover please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!
