We are sad to bring you the news that Ernest Oliver, known in CB circles as LE04, has passed away.
Ernest was a royal signalman and had a lifelong interest in all kinds of radio. In the 80s he helped his son and NARC member Keith (M7KKO) and his good friend Nigel (M7EPK) get into radio initially with CB – he enjoyed electronics and antenna building too. Ernie often used to listen to the weekly NARC net when Keith was in Hemsby.
He always wanted to do his amateur radio licence but sadly never did. Last Christmas NARC sent him a Xmas card which gave him a smile and he again mentioned that he would like to take his amateur licence in the spring. But sadly ill health took hold in January and after a couple of hospital stays and a rollercoaster of issues he went to a nursing home a week ago for end of life care and peacefully slipped away with Keith by his side at 2.05am on May 9th aged 86.
On CB he was Ernie with handle Lancelot and callsign Lima echo zero four….a callsign he used to DX on the old CB frequencys.
Our thoughts and prayers with Keith, Nigel and all of Ernie’s family and friends.
Rest in Peace Ernie.
