David Palmer G7URP

Chairman

I live near Attleborough and I am the current Chairman of Norfolk Amateur Radio Club, Examination Secretary for Radio courses and ‘Bright Sparks’ coordinator – our group which aims to encourage and help youngsters with radio, electronics and construction.

I was licensed in 1993 and despite running my electronics business for 41 years until I recently retired, I still really enjoy electronics/radio as my favourite hobby along with real and model railways and associated technology!

With quite a busy life I do not have that much time for actual on-the-air radio, but I am particularly interested in television and construction – in particular micro-miniaturisation.

I have been using Apple Mac’s since it first came out in 1984 when I had to save really hard to afford the 128K single floppy drive £2000 Macintosh with a 9″ monochrome screen, but after feeling rather isolated (and sometimes ridiculed!) in this belief for many years I am delighted that now many others seem to also appreciate their innovation, design and intuitive ease of use, although I reluctantly agree that a mouse is better with two buttons!.

Having been single most of my life, through great friendships met through Norfolk Amateur Radio Club I finally met my perfect life partner and in October 2013 I married Tammy M3PLU, now M0TC.

I have been fascinated in all aspects of Television since I was a child and when the pandemic struck it was rewarding to put this equipment and experience to good use and work with Tammy to produce a weekly live programme to help keep NARC club members connected and engaged through a difficult time. NARC Live continues as a platform for most of the clubs talks so that we can have speakers from all over the world and now we also produce programmes for the RSGB and other organisations.
