Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!
Results:-
On VHF
The results of the 144MHz UKAC of 7th July were released on 20th July. Our team of 6 stations, G4KQY 404 points, EI8KN 548 points, G4HUN/P 661 points, G4DYC 99 points, G3SGC 219 points and myself 741 points managed a 6th place overall. We remain 6th in the 2m series. Link here to Results table
The results of the 432MHz FT8 AC 2h and 4h sections of 8th July were also released on 20th July.
EI8KN came 6th in the 2h Open section And 7th in the 4h section. G0BIX was 5th in the Restricted 2h section and 4th in the 4h section. Link to 2h results here

In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Wirral in 4th. Interestingly Parallel lines group have a perfect 6000 score so far! Link here
On HF
The results of the 80m CC SSB contest of 15th July were released on 20th July. Our team of 9 stations, reduced due to the football, scored a win with 5347 points and Newbury second on 5110 points. Top scorer this time was Andy M0NKR who finished joint 3rd in the whole contest. This left us on 138,594 points and Bristol second with 88,069 points with one leg left to go. Link here to scores

Contests:-
On VHF
On Saturday 18th July the 70MHz trophy contest ran. This was part of the RSGB VHF championship. 3 of us from NARC entered. Stewart G4AFF, myself and Roger, EI8KN. Interestingly wee are running 5th 6th and 7th in the single operator fixed list on claimed scores. There were generally flat conditions but a brief ES opening at the end helped a bit. Best DX for Stewart and myself was LZ1AG and for Roger, 9A7R. Link here to claimed scores
On Tuesday 21st July the 1.3 GHz UKAC ran. Conditions started fairly well with mild Tropo to the North East but this soon failed leaving average conditions. Best DX here was SM6VTZ and we were represented by Stewart, G4AFF, Myself and Graham G3SGC who achieved his best number of contacts from his new location with 23 elements at 13ft but commented that he took the antenna down half way through having run out of stations he could hear but found Stewart G4AFF was much louder with his antenna at 2ft AGL!. On HF
On Sunday 19th July the International Low power contest ran. NARC stations involved were Peter M0RYB (52 contacts 5W unassisted), Jim G3YLA (13 contacts 5W unassisted) and Bob 2E0OBO (33 contacts 10W assisted).Link here to logs received

Managed two contests this weekend. Low power, fixed station 10W. 33 QSOs in three hours, tough going, 1000-1300, that was enough!. YOTA, better but only 50 QSOs in one hour 20 mins. That was quite enough screen time for one day (too much really).
Bob 2E0OBO
On Thursday 23rd July the DATA 80m CC, the last of this year, ran. Conditions were fairly good but activity seemed a bit down. I had a massive computer crash which meant I had to leave the joys of the Flex and SDC and scramble to get N1MM running on the laptop with the FT991a. It did not go smoothly!. Top scorer for NARC looks to be Ray G3G with 128 contacts closely followed by Jon G4IVV on 124. Both using Flex radios with SDC software. NARC managed 13 logs for this one as far as I am aware. Before each of the 2m and 70cm UKACs there is an FM leg starting 1 hour before for 55 minutes. I hear almost no activity in this from here but others may have more luck! Rules etc on RSGBCC site.
Also of interest for some on the vhf / uhf bands are the EU FT8 activity tests – see the following link more information. These are on the first (144 MHz), second (432MHz) and third (1.3GHz) Wednesdays of each month. 1700-2000 Hrs EU FT8 series website

Wednesdays throughout the year, CW OPS 1 hour mini tests 13:00, 19:00, Thurs 03:00 and 07:00, exchange Name and G if not a member or CW OPS number if you are a member.

Also on Fridays 2000 to 2100 and Mondays 0000 to 0100 each week CW OPS runs the K1USN slow speed CW contests. Any speed up to 20wpm is acceptable. For rules see :- CW OPs SST page these contests are open to anyone.
