NARC Contest News 250 Friday 17th July 2026

HF NFD Gt. Ellingham G3LDI at the helm,

Welcome to week two hundred and fifty of NARC’s contest news

A bit rushed this week due to short deadline and late UKAC.

Submissions or comments for this news to thedoctorphil@gmail.com. I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

Contests:-

On VHF

On Tuesday 14th July the 70cm UKAC ran. Conditions were good and NARC entered 7 stations. 135 logs were received at RSGBCC. Link here to claimed scores

On Thursday 16th July the 70MHz UKAC ran. Conditions were middling and the band was noisy. G4LPP, G4DYC, G4KQY, EI8KN and G8VPE seem to be the only NARC entries. Best DX here was GM4WJA in IO87. Link here to claimed scores

On HF

Over the weekend of 11th/12th July to much publicity and enormous volunteer effort the WRTC ran in Norfolk and Suffolk with 50 teams of the world’s top contesters, one pair from each country in identically equipped portable locations. They took part on CW and SSB in the IARU HF contest and at the same time the RSGB GR2HQ test ran. Link here to the WRTC results and link here to the IARU contest logs received and link here to the GR2HQ challenge (where Tracey 2E0CEY was the only entrant for NARC)

Bob 2E0OBO reports activity in IARU HF:-
Hi Phil,
This weekends epic noggin bender 201 qsos. Actually did a bit more this time😇. Four 1 hour sessions with an 05 circle ring bolt stint😁. Stand out qso’s, Brazil, china and Korea. NZ’s/AUS’s in the back ground but no dice. St. Helena was there but piled up to his armpits☹️.
Catch you on the shouty shouty on Mon and cwt on Wed.

On Wednesday the penultimate 80m CC contest of the year, SSB, ran. This test coincided with the World Cup football semi-finals where apparently England were beaten by Argentina. This resulted in a lower than usual turnout in general for the contest. Conditions were reasonable and NARC put in 9 logs which look like they should secure another win. Link here to logs received

Please let me know if you were on in any other VHF or HF contests and I’ll put a summary in next week’s news.
Apologies if I have missed any emailed reports, some go to spam and some get lost in the huge quantity of junk mail! I try to be diligent!
