WRTC is getting nearer!
Submissions or comments for this news to thedoctorphil@gmail.com. I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.
Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

The results of the 144MHz UKAC of 5th May were released on 18th May. G4AFF came 8th, G4LPP 11th, M5BFL 12th, EI8KN 25th all in the Open section. In the Restricted section G4KQY was 57th, G8VPE 98th, M9BLX 107th and G4DYC 130th. G4HUN came 29th in the low power section. This represents 9 entries which is an excellent turnout. Thanks to all who participated. Overall our team managed a 6th place and remain 6th in the 2m series. Link here to results
The current VHF championship placings are at this link here
In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Harwell in 4th. Link here
On HF
The results of the 80m CC SSB contest of 11th May were released on 18th May. There were 284 entries in all for this one. NARC had a fairly poor turnout for this one with only 11 stations entering logs. Top of the heap in the 100W section was Andy M0NKR who won the section (182 QSOs) gaining 1000 points for the club so congratulations to him! Congratulations to Tracey 2E0CEY for making 101 QSOs in this one! We came second to Bristol in this one with 6,250 points to their 7286. We still lead the series with 84,995 points over Bristol’s 54,460. Link here to results
I’ve had 2 reports from the EA RTTY contest. 2 Club members gained places in this years test. Richard G4CDN achieved 3rd place in the 80m single op high power section and Tracey 2E0CEY managed 62nd in the all band single op low power section.

Contests:-
On VHF
On Thursday 14th May the 50MHz UKAC ran. Conditions were not great and 8 NARC members turned out which was good. In the open section our highest scores looks to be Steve M5BFL, with 55 contacts and best DX GI4SNA and in the Restricted section it was G4LPP with 39 QSOs and best DX GI4SNA. Link here to claimed scores
On Saturday and Sunday the May 144 contest ran. Interestingly the 6h section was notable by its absence this year. There were 5 entries from NARC G4AFF, G4LPP, G8VPE, G4DYC and G3SGC. The club didn’t put in a large multi-op entry this year. Best DX from here was DG0VOG at 840Km. Conditions to the East were quite reasonable but inland was more difficult. Link here to claimed scores
On Tuesday 12th May the 1.3 GHz UKAC ran. Once again from here conditions were poor inland but reasonable to the East. There were only 3 entries from NARC, Myself, G3YLA and G4DYC. Best DX here was OZ3Z at 616Km. We could do with some more contestants on the higher bands! Link here to claimed scores
On Thursday 21st May the 70MHz UKAC ran. I am aware of 4 of us on tonight but there may have been others. The test has only just finished! Myself, G4PFZ, G8VPE and G4DYC. Conditions were quite poor, once again, particularly to the North West. Best DX here with the help of a plane and CW was Jon GM4JTJ. Many stations were complaining of bad noise but it was better than usual here. The deep QSB was, however, very noticeable. Link here to claimed scores
On HF
On Monday 18th May the RSGB FT4 contest ran. This has been proving increasingly popular worldwide. 124 logs have been received. NARC members G0BIX, G4OZG, and M0KKM were spotted in the list. Link here to logs received
On Wednesday 20th May the 80m CC DATA contest ran. We had a good turnout for this one and activity was also good. Conditions were also reasonable. 14 (or possibly 15) NARC stations have entered logs with the highest number of claimed QSOs being from Ray G3G (G3XLG) at 132 which looks like it may end up as the highest score of the contest. It was also good to see a new station participating, welcome Jeffrey G0CWJ to the team – link here to logs received
Bob 2E0OBO emailed me about his activity over the weekend in a couple of contests:-
Hi Phil
Started with eu psk63 dx on Saturday but gave up after 16 qso’s. Went onto KOS (HM King of Spain) cw, much more rewarding😆 and got my 50 in short order.
Sunday,
Tried psk again and staggered to 25, just to show willing🤣.

Please let me know if you were on in any other VHF or HF contests and I’ll put a summary in next week’s news.
Apologies if I have missed any emailed reports, some go to spam and some get lost in the huge quantity of junk mail! I try to be diligent!
