Contests:-

On VHF

The 1.3GHz UKAC ran on Tuesday 18th February. Conditions weren’t great! 4 of us entered from NARC. Most QSOs were made for us by Stewart G4AFF. Best DX here was DK1PZ via aeroplane reflection CW. So far 78 logs have been received at RSGB. Link to claimed scores here

The 70MHz UKAC ran on 20th February 2025. Conditions were pretty poor with mainly lowish scores, deep QSB and initially what sounded like a strong Auroral note on signals although no Auroral warning was seen. 5 of us turned out. Best DX here was GI4SNA. Link to claimed scores here

On HF

The ARRL International DX CW contest ran over the weekend of 15th/16th February. NARC interest consisted of myself, Tracey 2E0CEY and Mike G4DYC. (If i’ve missed anyone else from the club who entered, please let me know) I quite enjoyed popping in and out of the test over the weekend as time permitted and managed 350 QSOs on 5 bands. Here’s a short report from Tracey, 2E0CEY about her participation, it’s good to see another keen CW operator in the club! :- >

Hi Phil, just put a log in for this weekends ARRL. My first cw contest in 10 years! Struggled at first but wanted to use this weekend to get some practice in for the RSGB CC CW. Done a few hours and happy with 40 qsos. Worked 21 usa states and 2 VE. Onwards and upwards!

Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!
