As you may have heard on NARC Live, we have been approached to see if we would again support a new DXpedition to Bouvet Island in 2026. Bouvet Island is amongst the top ten rarest and most wanted and as you may recall we supported the teams attempt a few years ago. It was fraught with challenges and they did not make it in the way they originally intended (we had a talk about how difficult it was), but they have learned a lot and feel more confident this time, but of course need to fund it again.
The committee have met and agreed that we can afford to and feel we should support it, but of course the money we look after is every member’s and as this will not interest everyone we wanted to ask our membership what they feel. If we go ahead we would likely sponsor it to the tune of between £100 to £250 and this would come from NARC surplus club funds. (note that although our constitution allows committee and/or treasurer consent to spend up to £500 without consulting club members, we feel that this is something which members should have the opportunity to comment on).
So please, however you feel, have your say; if you have particular feelings of whether we should or should not sponsor this DXpedition please drop me a brief note with what you feel including reasons and we will then deliberate before we make a final decision.
Please drop me a line within the next 10 days – by midnight on Sunday 17th August.
Thank you
