Welcome to week two hundred and fifty nine of NARC’s contest news
Submissions or comments for this news to g4lpp.1@gmail.com (note new e-mail address). I particularly need any contest related photographs, you may be prepared to share, to head the news each week.
Contesting can be great fun but I know there’s a reluctance to step into unknown waters. It’s a great way of improving many aspects of our hobby including one’s own performance and the quality of your station. If you have any interest whatsoever please call in to the contest net on Friday evening at 9pm on 145.250MHz FM or speak to any of the regular contesters on 450. Or indeed email me!

On 26th September the results of the 144MHz Trophy contest of 5/9/2026 were released. This is part of the RSGB VHF championship. The leading Non-UK station was Roger EI8KN, so congratulations are due to him. Also for NARC Stewart G4AFF came a very laudable 3rd in the 6 hour Single operator Fixed section. Interestingly, it looks like quite a few teams are choosing sites in JO02 now. Link here to results
On 27th September the results of the 1.3GHz UKAC of 15th September were released. 3 of us entered this one. Stewart G4AFF came 4th in the Open section, with Phil G4LPP 5th and Roger EI8KN 13th. In the Low power section, Graham G3SGC was 17th and Jim G3YLA was 39th. We came 3rd in this one but remain 5th overall in the 23cm series. Link here to results
On 28th September the results of the 70MHz UKAC of 17th September were released. 4 of us entered. In the Restricted section, Phil G4LPP was 6th, Roger EI8KN was 28th and John G8VPE was 60th. In the Low power section Graham G3SGC was 10th. We came 5th in this one but remain 4th in the 4m series. Link here to results
The current VHF championship placings are at this link here
In the overall UKAC we are currently 5th, but a long way behind Wirral in 4th. Interestingly Parallel lines group have a perfect 6000 score so far! Link here
On HF
Notably, the results of this year’s GR2HQ challenge from 11/12th July are still awaited.
The results of SSB field day of 5th / 6th September are now out. Local interest was in the excellent 2nd place position achieved by the Trimingham contest team, M6R/P, which included several NARC members, to whit – Richard G4CDN, Wilson G6ELF and Andy M0NKR. Also on the team were M8UKQ, M0HKB, M9CPAand G3DML. Link here to results
No other new HF results of which I am aware although the Autumn series DATA results are expected very soon.
This year’s HF championship results to date are at this link here
If people are entering other contests of whose results I am obviously unaware please e-mail me to let me know the outcome and I’ll mention it here.
Contests:-
On VHF
No new VHF and up contests to report on this week. We look forward to the 432 and up and the 23cm and 13cm Trophy contests this weekend. (3/4 Oct.).
On HF
Over the weekend of 26th/27th September the CQ WW RTTY contest ran. NARC members who have sent me reports were Alan G8OO, Bob 2E0OBO (who also did a stint in the YU DX contest) and Tracey 2E0CEY. Their reports are below:-
First Alan G8OO (also as G1Q)-
On Saturday I entered the 12-hour section of CQWW RTTY as G1Q and operated from 05:58 to 17:56 with a recorded operating time (5 hours 33 minutes) I logged 249 Qso’s into 58 countries and these were as follows NA-54, SA-11, EU-131, AF-14, AS-33, OC-06 averaging 1.19 minutes per QSO using only 100w into a 160m EFLW at 7m agl and a hexbeam at 18m agl on 5 bands with a claimed score of 116470.
Further to the above 12-hour entry.
Due to family commitments, I was only able to operate in the CQWW RTTY 6-hour section as G8OO on Sunday morning from 02:15am to 04:47am (2hours 34 minutes) where I worked 86 qso’s into 27 countries and these were as follows NA-19, SA-2, EU-56, AF-9, averaging 1.10 minutes per QSO with 71 multipliers and a claimed score of 14,343 using only 100w into a 160m EFLW at 7m agl on 80m & 40m.

Second from Bob 2E0OBO-
Hi Phil,
Ran on YU DX cw for an hour getting 50 qso’s plus CQWW RTTY, s and p, took a bit longer for 50. Tracey, 2E0CEY also there. Catch you on cwt Wed and perhaps UKEI cw on Wed evening.

Finally from Tracey 2E0CEY-
Very happy with my “Old Bird on a Wire” efforts this weekend in the CQWW RTTY Contest.
A little disappointed that 10m conditions were not good but otherwise some very nice openings particularly to North & South America on 40m & 20m.
Two new countries Aruba & Caymen Islands were amongst the many other countries worked. Thanks to my local radio head buddies for the QSOs and thanks Graeme GM5WXA
Tracey, 2E0CEY.
(Several other NARC calls appear in the RTTY logs received)
