On Saturday 21st April 2018, Norfolk Amateur Radio Club will once again run a special event station with the callsign GB0CMS at Caister Lifeboat station as part of the International Marconi Day celebrations.

This year is slightly different as Zane M1BFI also plans to run a bring and buy sale at the station in aid of Caister Lifeboat. This is not a rally like the one he runs at Caister in September, but Zane says he’ll just require a donation to CVLS from anyone that would like a table.

This will be held separately in one of the lifeboat sheds during the day with radio operations taking place in the usual conference room in the main building. Anyone interested in having a table for the bring and buy should contact Zane at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 07711 214790.

If you haven’t been involved in IMD before, on this day, the closest Saturday to Guglielmo Marconi's birthday, stations around the world are set up at sites with historical links to the inventor's work. You can find out more at the GB0CMS entry on QRZ.com

Although it is not a contest, radio amateurs around the world contact as many of these stations as possible to try and win an award. We therefore have to hand out GB0CMS to as many stations as possible on HF (VHF/UHF contacts do not count). We usual make around 150-200 contacts.

The station will run from approx. 9am to 5pm, with set up from about 8am, and we are looking for operators for both the 80m/40m station and the 30m/20m/17m station - just use the link at the top of the story to access the roster. You don't have to operate - any help is appreciated as we have to get both stations set up and taken down within an hour.

Both SSB and CW will be used, so you don't have to be a CW operator.
