As its now that time of year with the dark afternoons and mornings Top Band is well worth a listen on the CW end . Try starting about 1.825 and having a listen. Been surprised at what I have heard most of Europe and Scandinavia even the odd American early mornings. Some maybe Grey Line propagation as Canadian and American stations seem to appear just before sunrise.
Well worth a tune round on Top Band as not many have the space for an antenna for 160 mtrs its good to hear activity and it sharpens up the CW listening skills.

Hi Rod

For information and for those who cannot sleep 05:45 I can hear the following on top band but cannot get my 80m inv V to tune using the Flex internal tuner and only putting out circa 50w and cannot break the pileups.
N2IC = 1.815 - 559
VE6WZ = 1.181 - 449
N7ZG = 1.827 - 349
W0FLS = 1.829 - 559 and the strongest on the band

Hi Rod

Are you playing in the 160m contest tomorrow?

Have a look at www.rsgbcc.org/hf/rules/2019/r160m.shtml for the exchange.

Yes some very strong signals on Top Band . I am using a JRC-NRD-345 HF Receiver with a long wire antenna about 35 feet long and up at about 14 feet, It runs along the roof line of my garage. During the summer I improved my station earthing and added more earth rods then connected my main station earth to the radials buried in my lawn which assist my vertical. I know this is frowned upon but in my case it seems to have worked as signals seem to be stronger than before. It just goes to show that there is activity on the lower HF frequencies so do take a look.
