NDR Traffic Update no 68 – No A140 closure tonight, but rescheduled for Wednesday night

White lining work on the A140 Cromer road junction with Norwich Northern Distributor Road was not completed under last night’s (Mon) closure of the A140, but the road will remain open tonight (Tues) because wet weather is forecast.

Instead, the A140 will have to close on Wednesday night (8pm to no later than 6am), with a further overnight closure possible on Thursday night if there is any work still outstanding.

The diversion route from Norwich (from the Boundary junction, Ring Road) is Reepham Road, New Drayton Lane, B1149 Holt Road, Shortthorn Road, A140 Cromer Road.

Norfolk County Council and Balfour Beatty apologise for the inconvenience caused by these closures which are necessary to complete the surfacing and tie-in of the NDR junction to the A140.

NDR Traffic Update no 67 – Further delay to Green Lane West closure

The closure of Green Lane West, Rackheath, to tie-in the link to the new junction with the A1151 Wroxham Road, has been postponed for a further week and so will not  take place this weekend (4/5 November).

The further postponement is because of uncertainty about the diversion of a BT cable. The work and closure has been re-scheduled for the weekend of 11/12 November. In the meantime traffic lights will stay in use on Green Lane West.

The A140 Cromer Road overnight closures continue tonight (8pm to 6am at the latest) and for the rest of this week, but the road will be clear on Saturday and Sunday nights. The road will be closed again on Monday 6 November (8pm to 6am), but it is hoped that no further overnight closures will be needed.

On Plumstead Road, Thorpe End, the pavement under construction on the north side will be finished by the end of this week. Next week, work starts on a mini-roundabout at the junction with Broadland Drive. Three-way lights will be needed while the kerbs are being put in. These lights will be manually controlled a peak, and give priority to Plumstead Road at other times.

NDR Traffic Update no 65 – A140 overnight closures – Green Lane West closure postponed

Work on the major junction between the A140 Cromer Road and the A1270 Norwich Northern Distributor Road is entering its final stages and motorists should allow for temporary lights during the day, and overnight closures from Monday, 30 October.

The overnight closures will be from 8pm to no later than 6am the following morning. Closure signs and barriers will be removed as soon as the road is clear each morning. While the A140 is closed, traffic (south to north) will be diverted at the Boundary junction (Norwich Ring Road) on to Reepham Road, New Drayton Lane,  B1149 Holt Road, returning to the A140 via Shortthorn Road. (Same route reversed for north-south traffic).

The overnight closures are to allow the final tie-in and surfacing of the roundabouts and slip roads at the A140 Cromer Road/A1270 NDR junction. On Tuesday 31 October the 8pm closure will be after the start of the Norwich City match against Wolves at Carrow Road, but it will affect supporters who normally use the A140 on their way home.

The required high standard of surface can only be achieved through an extended period of work and a continuous supply of hot asphalt from the Tarmac coating plant at Postwick. It is not possible to stop and start this plant or the paving machinery without affecting the quality of the final surface, possibly reducing its life. The number of overnight closures required depends upon progress. Norfolk County Council and Balfour Beatty apologise for the inconvenience these closures will cause.

Green Lane West weekend closure postponed

The closure of Green Lane West planned for this coming weekend (28/29 October) has been postponed after unrecorded electricity and BT cables, and an unidentified pipe, were uncovered during excavations on Wednesday. Work cannot continue in the area until it has been confirmed that these services are no longer live, or they have been diverted. It is hoped that the closure to complete the tie-in of the new Green Lane West junction with the A1151 Wroxham Road will take place over the following weekend (4/5 November).

(NB: Wroxham Road itself is not being closed.)
