Jim's classes have completed, but he is continuing with revision. That is very encouraging!
Good to see several keeping up with him too.

25wpm Beginners CW report Tuesday 23rd June 2020

CW practice

The revision sessions of the 25wpm course are going well with at least six stations taking part plus a few secret listeners, I expect.

It was great to see the progress in copying the abbreviations we are doing, they will help make QSOs easier to decode, since about 75% of a QSO is probably made up of this CW style shorthand.

This revision exercise will continue for a few more weeks, but the time will come towards autumn when it will be all at 25wpm with no extra spaces. Its not too late to join in by finding the MP3 files on the NARC website starting with the basic character set, and you’ll be able to play catch up and get some early preparation for the next start from scratch course, subject to interest this will be either from October or next January.

Until next week…

The CWOPS CWT activity periods are very well attended now, even on the early morning ones, three of us at least turn up. On the others we have had 7 including John G8VPE. John is not yet a member of CWOPS, but we are working on that! He is doing regular practice now, so I am informed, with regular attendance in Jim's class.
With lockdown, it is a super time to learn, but it does need the Big P word!!
It will soon be time for the CW OPS Open, held on the first Saturday in September. This is a serious contest, with three four-hour periods. It is great fun however, and four hours is not too long, especially in Lockdown!! Take a look on the CW OPS web site.

"My Favourite Keys"
.
I would appreciate pictures of your key or keys together with a head shot so I can compile them for a page on the CLub's web site. Emails to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
I am featuring them here first, so please send them along, together with a mug shot. I AM RUNNING SHORT!!!

.
I am featuring the keys this week belonging to Chris G4CCX. Chris is lucky enough to own a Chevron, one of the Rolls Royce of paddles. It does have someone else's call on it, because that is who Chris bought it from!

Note what CW and concentration can do for you!!!

I could use some more pictures to feature here please. It does not matter if you are not overly active, but just shows what key(s) you use. Don't forget the mug shot too!

More emphasis on "proper" radio modes!
This club could be for you if you like real QSOs with real people, not just two computers talking to each other. Yes, I know we all use those very impersonal JT modes, for slot filling etc., usually because there is little activity anywhere else. However, some people are getting fed up with collecting numbers that way.
Take a look at this new club! It could be just what we are all looking - and hoping - for!

Headcopy Class is going well.
.
There may be a few times when Headcopy Class has a break for the summer, as other work calls at G3LDI. However, if someone else wants to run it please let me know.
.
So, join us at 1000 on Monday mornings and have some fun. GOTA is the accronym to apply here, Get On The Air and make more Qs.
